PURPOSE:
Promote a vibrant and affordable environment for our citizens by ensuring
a safe community and by providing high quality, cost effective services.

community where our citizens choose to live, work, and play, and businesses
can flourish in a friendly and safe environment throughout their lifetimes.
PRINCIPLES: The
City of Batavia expects and encourages its leaders and employees to be guided

interests of residents;
commit to making Batavia the best place in New York State to live and
work, and to leave a legacy of a better quality

GENERAL
INFORMATION ABOUT COUNCIL
The
City Council is responsible for ensuring effective and responsive leadership
to meet public and organizational requirements and serving as the official
representatives of the City. The City's Mission Statement serves as a
beacon for this leadership, and is exercised by the establishment of strategic
initiatives.
Council leadership is also demonstrated through establishing policy
decisions, such as the enactment of Ordinances and Resolutions and adoption
of the City's annual budget. Council also approves any contracts and appoints
citizens to committees and task forces. City
