GO ART! programs four galleries in two counties, presents special events & concerts, hosts workshops, an annual Salon Series and Community Arts Awards, and generally supports and promotes all that is art and culture in the region.

The Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council, a.k.a. GO ART!, was originally established as the Genesee Arts Council in 1962 in Batavia, NY. It was incorporated in 1974 with a mission to support & promote art & culture in Genesee County, a small rural county located between Buffalo & Rochester in western NYS. In 1979, it initiated the very popular “Picnic in the Park,” a community arts celebration held annually on July 4th in Batavia, NY, and in 1988, began administering the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Decentralization Program, which helps to fund arts and cultural programming in the area. In 1992, at the encouragement of NYSCA, it merged with its neighbor to the north (Orleans County Arts Council) to become the Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council. Programs & services continue to expand over the years in response to community cultural needs. In 2002, GO ART! was bestowed with a beautiful facility in downtown Batavia, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is now home to GO ART! & several other cultural organizations, including the Batavia Concert Band, Genesee Symphony Orchestra and Batavia Players, which share space & organizational resources.

The cultural center is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm, and features GO ART!’s Main Gallery, Permanent Gallery, event and meeting space, the Batavia Rotary Club Room, and now also Sweet Ecstasy Bakery & CafĂ©, which operates 10am to 6pm M-F, 9am to 2pm Sat.
