The Holland Office, built by Joseph Ellicott, was the third land office in Western New York.   From this building 3.3 million acres were sold that became Western New York.  Batavia, located in Genesee County, is known as the Birthplace of Western New York.

The Holland Land Office Museum is open year round, featuring exhibits that reflect the lives of the men and women that shaped Western New York.

One of the items on display is the Medal of Honor received by Batavian Charles F. Rand, who was the first soldier in the nation to volunteer to the Civil War. Also visit the museum to see the orders that were in the pocket of Batavia native Emory Upton when he was wounded at the first Battle of Bull Run.  Learn how Upton’s writing influenced some military policy and procedures that are still being taught today.

The Holland Land Office Museum has something for everyone from the History Hero’s Summer Program to the Wonderland of Trees display during the winter holidays.
