NY Route 5 - Main Street Reconstruction

What are the objectives of the project?

Project Objectives were established based on the existing conditions and identified needs/deficiencies within the project corridor. This information, along with descriptions of the alternatives evaluated and social, ecomonic and environmental consequences, was presented in a Draft Design Report dated March 2001.

The Project Objectives are as follows:

• Restore the existing pavement section to provide good structural and ride-ability conditions for a service life of 50 years, thereby reducing maintenance costs.

• Improve overall traffic conditions through improvements at key intersections to provide an acceptable Level of Service (i.e., LOS D or better). (Definition of Level of Service)

• Improve safety conditions at identified accident locations and reduce the accident rate in a cost-effective manner.

• Improve aesthetics and enhance potential for economic viability along the corridor, especially in the downtown area, through the implementation of streetscaping concepts and landscaping improvements.
