Preliminary design for the
Main Street Reconstruction Project began in June 2000. Existing conditions
were documented, needs were identified and project objectives were developed.
Subsequently, alternative solutions were evaluated and impacts of these
potential solutions were assessed. All information was presented in the Draft
Design Report dated March 2001. The feasible solutions were presented to City
Council on March 26, 2001, and to the public at a May 10, 2001 "open
house" forum at the Genesee Country Mall to obtain the public's input on
the solutions. Based on the comments received, concerns expressed by affected
businesses and property owners and input from the Batavia City Council,
further evaluations and refinements of the feasible solutions were conducted.
