I would like to request records under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). How do I go about this?

If you would like to review records held by the City of Batavia, a request would need to be made in writing, specifying which records you would like to review or get copies of.  Standard copies cost $0.25 per page.  The Request to Examine Official Records form is available for requesting records to help us ensure we are providing what you need.  Under FOIL, the City has 5 days to acknowledge receipt of the request and 20 business days from the date of acknowledgement, to provide or deny the records, if any.  Additional time may be needed based on the size of the request.  FOIL rules can be viewed here.  If there are any questions, please call the Clerk's Office at 585 345-6305.  Completed requests can be submitted by mail to:

Records Access Officer
One Batavia City Centre
Batavia, NY 14020

or by e-mail to:  hparker@batavianewyork.com

If a request is denied and you would like to appeal the denial, appeals must be made in writing within 30 days to:

Office of the City Manager
