Build Responsibly

question mark

There are a series of important questions you need to ask yourself before you build in the Special Flood Hazard Area.

Chapter 87 of the Batavia Municipal Code Covers Flood Damage Prevention.

The entire Municipal Code is available on-line at the City’s website.  The link directly to Chapter 87 is below:

It’s important to know that before you build anything for your City-owned property, you must obtain a building permit.  Permits are located in the Bureau of Inspection at City Hall and can be downloaded directly from the City of Batavia website at this address:

Before you build in a Special Flood Hazard Area, you will need to obtain a flood elevation certificate.  For information on flood elevation certificates, please click this link:

The City of Batavia’s building codes are different for construction within the SFHA, and Chapter 87 outlines those requirements.

It’s important to understand all the laws that govern construction before you enter into the planning stage of your project.  If you’d like to speak with someone about those requirements, please call the Bureau of Inspection at 585-345-6345.
