How can I become a City of Batavia licensed plumber?

An application to the Examining & Supervising Board of Plumbers is required to determine eligibility for the Master Plumbers exam that is offered biannually in February and September. The application fee is $150.00 and the submittal deadlines are June 1st and December 1st.  To qualify for examination, the applicant must meet the minimum qualification listed below.   • Must be a Master Plumber that was issued a certificate of competency obtained by successfully passing a written examination given by a plumbing board from another municipality within NYS; or,
  • Four years experience working for a Master Plumber that was issued a certificate of competency obtained by successfully passing a written examination given by a plumbing board; or,
  •  A combination of two years experience working for a Master Plumber that was issued a certificate of competency obtained by successfully passing a written examination given by a plumbing board and successful completion of two semesters of an approved trade school; or,
  • The Board will waive the requirements prescribed in the foregoing paragraphs provided that the applicants training and experience is substantially equivalent to such qualifications.
  • Substantial equivalence:                                                                                            

a) A person not working for a Master Plumber but has been working in theplumbing trade with hands-on experience for eight years; or

b) A combination of all working experience and education, if any, shall be considered equal to a total of eight years experience.

c) For paragraphs 2 and 3, and subparagraphs (a) and (b) above, one years experience shall be equivalent to one thousand hours of working.
